Obverse description	The obverse is dominated by a large intaglio-printed vignette of the HSBC lion's head in deep green at centre, set against a guilloche underprint in pale green with diagonal red and green bands. At upper left, the bicolour numeral "50" is rendered in red and green with intricate microprint detail, while at upper right a green holographic butterfly motif incorporates the denomination numeral. A vertical windowed security thread with repeating "50" numerals runs along the right-centre field, and the HSBC hexagon logo appears at lower centre.

Reverse description	The reverse carries a large naturalistic vignette of a green-and-white butterfly with wings spread open, perched among red hibiscus blossoms and foliage rendered in a watercolour-style wash across the full note height. At upper right, the bicolour denomination numeral "50" is printed within a diamond guilloche panel in green and red, with a corresponding mirror-image grey numeral at upper left. The HSBC corporate name and logo appear in a solid green band at the foot of the note, beneath which the Chinese and English institutional titles are inscribed.
