| Reverse description | The reverse centers on the Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the four successive effigies of the Queen as they appeared on Canadian coinage, arranged clockwise from the right: the 2003–2022 effigy by Susanna Blunt; the 1990–2002 effigy by Dora de Pédery-Hunt; the 1965–1989 effigy by Arnold Machin; and the 1953–1964 effigy by Mary Gillick. Behind the effigies, national floral emblems representing the constituent nations of the United Kingdom — the Tudor rose for England, the thistle for Scotland, the shamrock for Ireland, and the daffodil for Wales — are interwoven with the Canadian maple leaf and acanthus leaves. The legend CANADA 50 DOLLARS arcs along the periphery, accompanied by the abbreviated royal cypher E II R and the designation AB. The overall composition is executed in high-relief proof finish, celebrating seven decades of Her Majesty's reign. |
