Additional information

Niue has issued collector silver under its own authority since the 1980s, leveraging a 1981 agreement with New Zealand that permits the island to produce legal tender coinage despite having no central bank. The Russian Royal Family issue belongs to a wave of large-format rectangular silver produced during the early 2010s boom in novelty bullion, when several Pacific island jurisdictions competed aggressively for the commemorative collector market.

The Romanov execution at Yekaterinburg in July 1918 remains one of the more forensically documented events of the Russian Civil War — the remains of Nicholas II and Alexandra were not officially identified until DNA analysis in 1994, with the two missing children confirmed only in 2007.
