| Obverse description | The upper portion of the oval flan features a high-relief sculptural group rendered in an icon-like style, depicting seven members of the Romanov imperial family standing in a formal, hieratic arrangement with haloes above their heads, evoking Russian Orthodox iconographic tradition. The lower portion of the obverse displays the right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, set against a mirror-polished field with a partial reflective oval frame behind the bust. To the left of the effigy appears the denomination '50 DOLLARS' in two lines, and to the right the legend 'ELIZABETH II'; the fineness mark 'Ag 999' appears to the right of the bust. The legend 'NIUE ISLAND' is inscribed in large raised letters along the lower border of the coin, while an intricate geometric and foliate decorative border frames the entire oval perimeter. |
