Obverse description The national arms of Niue occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing the Southern Cross stars, three sailing ships, a yellow-leaved tree with a Niuean figure, a sheaf of wheat, and crossed hammers, surmounted by a Tudor crown. Two silver fern fronds flank the shield as supporters. The legend NIUE arcs along the upper left and the date 1989 along the upper right, both in the outer field.
