| Reverse description | A detailed polychrome depiction of the RMS Titanic steaming to the right, set against a large inlaid mother-of-pearl (nacre) disc that forms the central field of the reverse, imparting an iridescent oceanic effect. An iceberg is visible to the left of the vessel, evoking the fateful collision. The upper legend 'THE R.M.S. TITANIC' arcs along the rim above the nacre insert, while '50 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower rim. Decorative scroll ornaments flank the denomination inscription, and a beaded border frames the entire design. |

Fiji has issued commemorative silver rounds under its name since the 1970s, though the connection to actual Fijian monetary policy is nominal at best — these pieces are produced for the collector market by the Perth Mint and similar facilities, with Fiji's authorization serving largely as legal tender cover. The RMS Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, making 2012 the centennial year that prompted a wave of commemorative issues worldwide from dozens of issuing authorities.
KM#197 is one of several Titanic-themed Fijian issues from that centennial cycle, distinguished by its 5-troy-ounce format.
