Niue's status as a Cook Islands-adjacent Pacific microstate with a formal Compact of Free Association with New Zealand makes it a legally legitimate issuer of commemorative coinage, though virtually none of it circulates on the island itself. The commemorative market — not the 1,600 residents of Niue — is the entire point.
The Platinum Jubilee marked 70 years of Elizabeth II's reign, the longest of any British monarch. She died in September 2022, roughly eight months after this coin was struck.
