| 正面描述 | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, as modelled by Raphael David Maklouf. The truncation of the bust is lightly draped. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left field and COOK ISLANDS along the right field, with the date 1991 positioned in the lower exergual area. The initials RDM appear on the truncation, attributing the portrait to its engraver. The design is struck in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field. |

The Cook Islands gold Koala series of the early 1990s was produced in direct competition with Australia's own gold Koala program, leveraging the Cook Islands' status as a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand to issue internationally marketed bullion-adjacent coins. The .583 fineness — 14-karat gold — was an unusual choice for a collector issue of this period, when most sovereign gold programs were gravitating toward .999 or .9999 fine, and it kept production costs down while maintaining nominal face value credibility.
