Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, engraved by Arnold Machin, wearing a tiara and with hair arranged in a chignon. The name 'Elizabeth II' appears below the effigy along with the commemorative date '1973', flanked by two raised dots. The surrounding legend reads 'COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS · INDEPENDENCE', separated by a raised dot, running along the beaded inner border of the coin.

Reverse description A finely detailed standing figure of a Tobacco Dove (Columbina passerina), depicted in profile facing right, perched on a ground line with sparse grass tufts rendered in low relief. The denomination 'FIFTY DOLLARS' is arranged in two arcs, with 'FIFTY' at the upper left and 'DOLLARS' across the lower field. The year of issue appears to the right of the bird in the mid-field. The design is contained within a beaded border.
