Belize issued a series of gold commemoratives in the early 1990s depicting figures from World War II, and Rommel's inclusion alongside Allied commanders in that same series raised eyebrows at the time. The choice was purely commercial — aimed at the international collector market, where Rommel's name reliably sold coins regardless of the issuing nation's relationship to the conflict. Belize had none.
