Cook Islands issued a wave of silver wildlife pieces in the late 1980s and early 1990s — largely designed for the collector market rather than circulation — with the Eagle Owl series falling squarely into that program. The $50 face value was a deliberate fiction; no circulating coinage of that denomination existed in everyday use on the islands.

KM#93 is one of the quieter entries in that run, with mintages kept low enough to sustain collector interest but not low enough to create genuine scarcity.
