Beschrijving voorzijde The quartered coat of arms of Niue occupies the central field, depicting four quarters featuring the Southern Cross stars, traditional outrigger canoes, coconut palms with figures, a sheaf of grain, and crossed implements. The shield is surmounted by a Tudor crown and flanked on either side by stylised silver fern fronds. The legend NIUE appears to the left and the date 1990 to the right, both arching along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering against a proof mirror field.

Aanvullende informatie

Niue's early commemorative program in the late 1980s and 1990s leaned heavily on American presidential subjects — a calculated appeal to the U.S. collector market rather than any particular connection between the island territory and its honorees. Eisenhower was a natural choice given his dual status as Supreme Allied Commander and two-term president, though by 1990 similar issues from competing Pacific island mints had already crowded the market considerably.

KM#30 is one of several Niuean issues from this period struck by the Pobjoy Mint under contract.
