Reverse description Full-length rear-facing figure of the Spanish conquistador Diego de Almagro, clad in period armour, standing with both gauntleted hands resting on the pommel of a sword planted before him. To his left, a robed ecclesiastic stands beside a prominent rock formation, while the ruins of a city are visible in the middle ground. The composition commemorates the quincentenary of the European discovery of the Americas, with the upper legend reading 500 YEARS OF AMERICA 1492-1992 and the denomination 50 DOLLARS inscribed in the lower field.
