The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority issues its own currency despite the territory having no central bank in the conventional sense — the CIMA fulfills that regulatory role while remaining under Cayman statute rather than UK oversight. The D Series was introduced in 2010 as a general refresh of the circulating series, retaining De La Rue as the printer, a relationship that had defined Cayman banknote production since the Currency Board era of the 1970s.
The CI Dollar is pegged to the US Dollar at a fixed rate of 1.20 USD, a rate that has held unchanged since 1974 and is backed by a statutory reserve requirement rather than active monetary intervention.
