Additional information

The Czech Lion series, issued for Niue by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou, was designed to serve the Czech and Slovak bullion market — a domestic audience with no particular attachment to Niue but strong demand for gold denominated outside the crown. The arrangement is commercially straightforward: Niue provides legal tender status, the Czech Mint provides manufacturing expertise developed over centuries of central European coinage tradition.

Jablonec nad Nisou has housed significant Czech minting operations since the communist-era restructuring of Czechoslovak industry. The facility strikes coins for dozens of issuing authorities under similar arrangements.
