| 表面の銘文 | ELIZABETH II COOK ISLANDS RDM 1990 |
| 裏面の説明 | Central device depicts a bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae) in mid-hover, its wings raised and long slender bill extended toward a large tropical flower rendered in naturalistic detail in the lower left field. The bird is shown in fine relief with carefully engraved feather texture on the wings and body. The curved legend ENDANGERED WORLD WILDLIFE arcs around the upper and right periphery in a distinctive serif lettering style, while the denomination 50 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower portion of the field. The composition forms part of the Cook Islands Endangered World Wildlife series. |

Cook Islands issued a substantial run of wildlife-themed silver dollars throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, largely targeting the collector market rather than circulation. The bee hummingbird — endemic to Cuba and the smallest bird on earth — had no particular connection to the Cook Islands or the Pacific, which tells you exactly what this series was: a sovereign mint leveraging foreign wildlife imagery to sell to topical collectors worldwide.
