Issued to mark the approaching bicentennial of Trafalgar, this is one of the largest commemorative coins ever produced — 2 kilograms of fine silver at 115mm places it firmly in the category of display objects rather than anything approaching currency. The battle itself, fought on 21 October 1805 off Cape Trafalgar, ended French and Spanish naval ambitions for the remainder of the Napoleonic Wars and killed Vice-Admiral Nelson at the moment of his greatest victory.
Fiji's role here is purely jurisdictional. Commonwealth nations with minimal domestic minting infrastructure routinely license their monetary authority for prestige issues marketed directly to collectors, with no coins entering circulation.
