Cook Islands issued a wave of wildlife-themed silver pieces in the early 1990s under licensing arrangements that had little to do with the islands' own fauna or culture — the Alpine Ibex, native to the European Alps, had no geographic connection to the issuer whatsoever. These were frankly collector-market products, produced for the European coin trade and distributed through dealer networks rather than through any Rarotongan monetary channel.
