Obverse description The fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The effigy is encircled by the twelve symbols of the Chinese lunar calendar arranged in the field. The legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA and the denomination 50 DOLLARS appear around the periphery, with the designer's initials IRB below the portrait.
