Part of Perth Mint's Australian Saltwater Crocodile series, which ran through the mid-2000s and targeted the bullion collector market with fractional fine-gold issues. The saltwater crocodile series was a deliberate pivot toward wildlife themes after the Nugget/Kangaroo series had dominated Perth's gold output since 1986 — a response to growing international demand for thematically varied Australian gold.
The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was adopted by Australia in 1999.
