Reverse description The reverse presents a finely detailed depiction of a koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) clinging to a eucalyptus branch, facing left with its characteristic rounded ears and prominent nose rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The animal grips a cluster of eucalyptus leaves and stems with both forepaws, the fur texture engraved with exceptional naturalistic precision. The series title 'DISCOVER AUSTRALIA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the lower arc bears the inscription 'KOALA 1/2oz. 9999 GOLD'. The date '2006' appears in the right field amid the eucalyptus foliage, and the Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark is visible at the lower centre alongside the designer's initials. A beaded border encircles the entire composition.
