| Obverse description | The obverse bears the fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, uncrowned, with her hair styled in an upswept coiffure and wearing a pearl necklace and earring. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 50 DOLLARS and the date appear in two segments along the lower portion of the field. The portrait was engraved by Susan Taylor after the effigy modelled by Susanna Blunt, and the engraver's initials SB are visible below the Queen's neck truncation. |

| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a highly detailed, finely rendered sugar maple leaf (Acer saccharum) centered in the field, with deeply sculpted veining across all lobes. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery, while FINE GOLD / 1 OZ OR PUR runs along the lower periphery in bilingual English and French. The purity designations 9999 appear to the left and right of the leaf in the mid-field. A small security maple leaf privy mark is struck in the lower field below the central maple leaf, a feature introduced to authenticate the coin against counterfeiting. |
