| 背面描述 | A finely detailed red kangaroo is depicted in an upright standing pose at centre, its tail extended along the ground and forepaws raised, conveying alertness and strength. To the left in the middle field, a traditional Australian outback windmill with a water tank at its base is rendered against a burnished background, evoking the characteristic landscape of the Australian interior. The 'P' mintmark of the Perth Mint appears to the lower left of the windmill. The legend AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO arcs across the upper field, while the inscription 2012 1/2oz 9999 GOLD is incused along the lower exergual area. The design is executed in high relief with a proof-like finish contrasting polished devices against a frosted field. |

The Australian Kangaroo bullion series, launched by the Perth Mint in 1986 as the "Nugget" series before rebranding in 1989, changes its reverse design annually — a deliberate policy intended to drive collector demand alongside the coin's bullion function. The 2012 issue falls during a period when Perth Mint production volumes were climbing sharply in response to sustained institutional and retail demand following the 2008 financial crisis.
Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth-portrait effigy of Elizabeth II, introduced in 1998, was used across Australian coinage for over a decade before Jody Clark's fifth portrait replaced it from 2019.
