Canada's .9999 fine gold "Maple Leaf" bullion series has been produced since 1979, when the Royal Canadian Mint introduced it specifically to compete with the South African Krugerrand on international markets. It was among the first government-issued coins anywhere to achieve four-nines fineness at scale. The 2024 issue is the first in the series to carry the effigy of Charles III following his accession, with Jody Clark's portrait of Elizabeth II having appeared on the denomination for decades prior.
