Australia's fifth-generation $50 note, first circulated in October 2018, was quickly discovered to contain a spelling error in the microprinted text reproducing Edith Cowan's maiden speech to parliament — the word "responsibility" was misspelled across all 46 million notes in the initial print run. Note Printing Australia acknowledged the error and corrected it in subsequent production, but the flawed notes remained legal tender and were not recalled, meaning both versions circulate simultaneously and are distinguishable only under magnification.

The correction appeared quietly, without a formal public announcement about which batch runs carry which text.
