Rückseitenbeschreibung The reverse, printed in red tones on polymer, presents a detailed vignette of the Canadian Coast Guard Science icebreaker CCGS Amundsen at centre, set against a background map of the Canadian Arctic. A maple-leaf-shaped transparent window at upper right mirrors the obverse security element, and the large numeral '50' is printed in red at lower right alongside the 'Canada' wordmark. The frosted security panel at left repeats the see-through portrait and the Peace Tower vignette visible from the obverse, with bilingual vessel identification text below the ship vignette.

Anmerkungen

Canada's shift to polymer banknotes began with this series, with the $50 being one of the first denominations released in 2011–2012. The move was partly driven by durability economics — polymer notes last roughly two and a half times longer than paper in circulation — but also by the counterfeiting pressure that had plagued the preceding Frontier series, which the Bank of Canada had quietly acknowledged was more vulnerable than it should have been.

The Macklem/Carney signature combination is specific to a narrow window of issue, as Mark Carney departed for the Bank of England governorship in mid-2013.
