Obverse description Green-tinted note with a central guilloche underprint enclosing the denomination "FIFTY DOLLARS" and the bank's cartouche, dated Toronto, 2nd July 1917. To the left, an intaglio vignette of a standing male figure representing industry, with an anvil and hammer; to the right, a corresponding allegorical male figure with maritime attributes, both framed by ornate engraved borders. The serial number appears in red at upper left and right, with the prefix letter "C" below each numeral, and two handwritten facsimile signatures of bank officers appear across the lower centre.

Reverse description Printed in olive-green intaglio, the reverse is dominated by a large central vignette of the bank's allegorical seal, framing a sailing vessel within a circular cartouche inscribed "THE CANADIAN BANK OF COMMERCE EST. 1867", surmounted by a crown and Union Flag shield. Flanking the seal are two classically rendered allegorical figures — a helmeted male with a caduceus to the left and a female figure carrying a wheat sheaf to the right — set against a finely engraved lathe-work background. Large ornamental "5" and "0" numerals appear at the far left and right margins, with the word "FIFTY" lettered below the central vignette.
