| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in black and yellow-green on white cotton paper. At left, an intaglio vignette presents a facing three-quarter portrait of a distinguished gentleman in formal attire. The centre of the note is dominated by a large ornate guilloche medallion bearing the denomination numeral '50', flanked by two smaller rosette guilloche panels also carrying the numeral '50'. The bank title 'THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA' appears in bold letterpress across the top, with 'DOMINION OF CANADA' above, and the date 'JAN. 2ND 1913' and place 'MONTREAL' inscribed below the central vignette. Two manuscript signatures appear at the base, one countersigned and one for the President, with the serial number '052686' printed in red at upper centre. |
