Struck to commemorate the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this issue honors an institution founded in 1969 — the same year Abu Dhabi began exporting oil at scale, when the emirate was transforming from one of the poorest territories in the region into the economic center it would become. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who had ruled Abu Dhabi since 1966 and served as UAE President from the federation's founding in 1971, lent his name to the issue as the architect of that transformation. The chamber itself was a structural tool of that policy, organizing the private sector around state-directed petroleum revenue.
