50 Dirhams - Saqr

Ras al-Khaimah struck this issue just months before joining the United Arab Emirates in February 1972, making the entire independent coinage of the emirate a footnote spanning barely two years. Saqr bin Mohammed al-Qasimi, ruler since 1948, initially refused to join the federation and held out longer than any other emirate — this coin circulated under a government that was actively resisting absorption into the UAE.

The series was produced at the Bavarian State Mint in Munich, a common arrangement for Gulf states lacking domestic minting infrastructure at the time.
