The Green March of November 1975 was Hassan II's masterstroke of domestic politics — 350,000 Moroccan civilians walked into Spanish-held Western Sahara under royal direction, forcing Madrid into accelerated negotiations while the Franco regime was in its final days. Spain signed the Madrid Accords within weeks, transferring administrative control to Morocco and Mauritania. Morocco issued commemorative coinage at the one-year, two-year, and subsequent anniversaries, making the march a recurring instrument of nationalist consolidation as much as a historical event.
The fourth anniversary issue in .925 silver was struck in limited numbers for collectors. Morocco's commemorative program of this period was administered through the Paris Mint under contract.
