Andorra did not adopt its first written constitution until March 1993, ending a feudal co-principality arrangement that had formally persisted since a treaty in 1278 between the Bishop of Urgell and the Count of Foix. Joan Martí i Alanis, serving as Bishop of Urgell and therefore one of Andorra's two co-princes, was instrumental in negotiating that constitutional transition — a process that also secured Andorra's admission to the United Nations the same year.
The bimetallic construction, combining a substantial silver field with a gold insert, was a deliberate choice for a commemorative marking an event the issuing authority considered generational. KM#104 is a low-mintage issue with limited secondary market turnover.
