The portrait occupies the majority of the field, dominating the design in a commanding manner characteristic of official commemorative coinage of the Ba'athist era. A curved Arabic legend runs along the lower rim, identifying the subject as 'الرئيس القائد المناضل صدام حسين' (The President, Leader, Fighter, Saddam Hussein). The field around the portrait is smooth, providing strong contrast to the sculptural relief of the effigy. The reeded edge is clearly visible at the periphery. |
