| Description de l’avers | Central field displays the numeral '٥٠' (50) above the Arabic word 'دينار' (Dinar), all set within a raised inner circle. The name of the issuing authority, 'الجمهورية العراقية' (Republic of Iraq), appears in Arabic script across the upper portion of the inner circle. The dual date '١٤٠١هـ - ١٩٨٠م' (AH 1401 / AD 1980) is inscribed along the lower arc of the inner circle. A continuous Quranic inscription from Surah At-Tawbah (9:20) runs around the entire outer border of the coin in ornate Arabic calligraphy, referencing those who believed, emigrated, and strove in the cause of Allah. The coin is struck in highly polished proof-like gold with a reeded edge. |

Issued to commemorate the 1,400th anniversary of the Islamic Hijra calendar, this gold piece was part of a broader wave of state-sponsored commemorative issues across the Arab world marking the same occasion in 1981. Iraq's version was produced under Ba'athist authority at a moment when the country was already eight months into the Iran-Iraq War — a conflict that would consume the economy for nearly a decade and make luxury gold issues of this kind an immediate anachronism.
