Additional information

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of Abdullah II's accession following the death of King Hussein in February 1999, this piece was struck under a Jordanian government that had just navigated a politically delicate succession — Hussein had altered his will days before his death, removing his brother Hassan in favor of his son. That last-minute decision reshuffled the Hashemite line after 34 years of an established heir, and the commemorative program surrounding Abdullah's early reign was partly designed to consolidate dynastic legitimacy through tangible objects.

The .9166 fineness places this at 22-karat, the traditional standard for Middle Eastern commemorative gold.
