The "Change of 7 November" refers to the bloodless coup of November 7, 1987, in which Zine El Abidine Ben Ali removed the aging and increasingly erratic Habib Bourguiba from power — ending a 31-year presidency by declaring the founding father medically unfit to govern. Ben Ali's government institutionalized the anniversary as a national holiday, and commemorative coinage marking its milestones became a reliable fixture of the BCT's issues through the 1990s and 2000s. The French-legend variant was struck alongside an Arabic-legend counterpart, reflecting Tunisia's persistent official bilingualism in state documentation and currency.
