When Axis forces occupied Yugoslavia in April 1941, Italian military authorities in their occupation zone faced an immediate problem: existing Yugoslav banknotes were still circulating freely across zones, undermining any attempt at economic compartmentalization. The solution was a rubber-stamped overprint — "VERIFICATO" (verified) — applied to notes already in circulation or seized from bank stocks, legitimizing their continued use under Italian supervision.
The overprint itself is the note's entire reason for existing as a separate catalog entry. The underlying 50 Dinara was a standard ZIN-produced issue; Kun's engraving work for the series was considered among the finer domestic intaglio work of the interwar period in Yugoslavia. The overprinted survivors are considerably scarcer than the base note.
