This type spans the reigns of two shahs: Reza Shah, who abdicated under Anglo-Soviet pressure in September 1941, and his son Mohammad Reza, who took the throne immediately after. The coin design carried through the transition without interruption — the mint simply updated the royal name. Reza Shah had himself introduced the Pahlavi rial system in 1932, replacing the qiran, and these small dīnār subdivisions were part of that decimal reorganization. The 1941–1953 portion of the type encompasses the Mossadegh period and the 1953 coup, though circulation of low-denomination coinage continued regardless of political upheaval at the top.
