Åland's 1994 coin issues were produced as fantasy or novelty pieces — the autonomous Finnish archipelago has no independent monetary authority and has never issued legal tender coinage. The X# prefix in the World Coin catalog designates it as such. These were struck for the collector market rather than circulation, which explains the survival rate in pristine condition.
