| Obverse description | Central design features the Nicaraguan national arms motif rendered as a equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanic peaks rising above the sea, with a radiant sun and rainbow arc above, all set within a polished field. The weight indicator '0.5g' appears to the left of the triangle and the fineness mark 'Au 999.9' to the right. The circular legend 'REPÚBLICA DE NICARAGUA' arcs across the upper field and 'AMÉRICA CENTRAL' across the lower field, both separated by dot stops. The denomination '50 CÓRDOBAS' is inscribed below the central device. The entire design is bordered by a continuous ring of raised beads. |

| Additional information |
Nicaragua has issued a long-running series of fractional gold pieces honoring explorers, and Magellan's inclusion is historically pointed — his 1519–1522 expedition was the first to circumnavigate the globe, though Magellan himself was killed in the Philippines in April 1521 before the voyage was completed. The Victoria, under Juan Sebastián Elcano, carried the surviving eighteen men back to Seville.
At 0.5 grams of .9999 fine gold, these are among the smallest modern bullion issues produced under official central bank authority in the Americas.
