正面描述 The national coat of arms of Nicaragua occupies the central field, depicting a equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanoes rising above a tranquil sea, with a radiant sun emerging above the mountains. The date 1988 is inscribed below the arms, with the fineness mark 825/000 appearing beneath it in smaller characters. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA arcs across the upper field, while AMERICA CENTRAL curves along the lower field, each separated by a small five-pointed star. The entire design is rendered in high-relief proof finish against a deeply mirrored field.

附加信息

Nicaragua issued this coin during one of the worst economic collapses in Latin American history — by 1988, annual inflation had exceeded 10,000 percent, rendering the córdoba effectively worthless in daily commerce. A commemorative silver coin struck for international collector markets was essentially the only product the Banco Central could issue with any confidence of retaining value.

The Calgary Winter Olympics gave small nations a reliable hook for hard-currency sales through the Franklin Mint distribution network and similar channels. Very few of these pieces ever entered Nicaragua itself.
