正面描述	The obverse is dominated by a central oval vignette containing a portrait of Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón), rendered in intaglio in a dark violet-grey tone. The bank title BANCO NACIONAL DE COSTA RICA and DEPARTAMENTO EMISOR are inscribed across the top, with the denomination CINCUENTA COLONES in bold letterpress along the lower panel. Guilloche rosettes and lathe-work underprint frame the composition, with the series letter F and serial number repeated twice in red, and the issue place and date San José, Costa Rica, 9 de Setiembre de 1942 printed to the left.
