Obverse description Effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, wearing a diadem and veil, with her hair arranged in a coiffure secured at the nape, rendered in high relief after the portrait by Leonard Charles Wyon. The legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA CANADA arcs around the periphery, with CANADA appearing at the base of the truncation. The field is smooth and the portrait exhibits fine engraving detail characteristic of Wyon's work for Canadian coinage.
