Opmerkingen

The Ta-Ching Government Bank was established by imperial edict in 1905 as part of the Qing dynasty's belated attempt to modernize China's financial infrastructure and displace the foreign banks that had come to dominate large-scale currency circulation in the treaty ports. This 50-cent note belongs to the bank's earliest issued series, printed before the 1911 revolution rendered the institution and its currency obsolete almost overnight.

Surviving examples from this 1907 issue are genuinely scarce. The bank's operational window was short, redemption chaotic, and much of the remaining stock was destroyed or simply abandoned after the dynasty fell.
