Obverse lettering REPUBLIC OF KENYA 1973 HARAMBEE 50 FIFTY CENTS
(Translation: Pulling Together)
Reverse description The reverse presents an identical design to the obverse, consistent with this coin's status as an obverse trial piece: the Kenyan coat of arms occupies the central field, with two rampant lion supporters flanking a shield adorned with a Maasai warrior's shield motif and crossed spears in saltire behind. The motto scroll HARAMBEE appears beneath the supporters, the date 1973 is positioned to either side of the base of the supporters, and the denomination 50 FIFTY CENTS is inscribed in the lower portion of the field. The legend REPUBLIC OF KENYA runs along the upper periphery.
