Obverse description The Ugandan coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield charged with a sun in the first quarter, a traditional drum in the second, a cow in the third, and a fish in the fourth, supported by a Uganda kob (Kobus thomasi) to the left and a grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum) to the right, both standing on a grassy mound with a shield and crossed spears behind. A scroll at the base bears the national motto FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, with FIFTY CENTS along the lower periphery, all separated by raised dots, within a beaded border.
