Fiji has served as the issuing authority for hundreds of third-party licensed collector coins since the early 2000s, functioning essentially as a mint proxy for European producers — primarily the Mint of Poland and a handful of Austrian and Slovak operations — who need a sovereign name on the coin without the overhead of a national program. This particular piece combines two of the most commercially licensed images in the world, both controlled by separate institutional rights holders: the Louvre for the da Vinci, and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam for the Saint-Rémy canvas.

KM#1236.1 suffix notation suggests at least one variant exists within this release.
