Reverse description The reverse features a bold, naturalistic depiction of the bird-of-paradise flower (Strelitzia reginae), a plant endemic to South Africa and commonly known as the 'crane flower' due to its distinctive avian-shaped bloom. The striking flower head, with its vivid orange sepals and blue petals emerging from a beak-like spathe, is rendered in fine relief at centre. The denomination '50c' appears in the field to the left of the bloom, and the engraver's initials 'LL' are discreetly placed in the lower right field.
