Beschrijving keerzijde A stylised, windswept tree dominates the left and upper field, rendered with expressive, flowing branches and a sinuous trunk that curves dramatically toward the lower centre, evoking the vitality and resilience of forests. The denomination numeral 50 appears prominently to the right of the canopy. Below, a three-line Greek legend reads ΔΙΕΘΝΕΣ ΕΤΟΣ / ΓΙΑ ΤΑ ΔΑΣΗ, meaning International Year of the Forests, with the FAO acronym rendered as F.A.O. in the lower field. The overall design was engraved by Stelios Karamallakis and commemorates the FAO-sponsored International Year of the Forest.

Aanvullende informatie

The 1985 FAO coinage program coordinated commemorative issues across dozens of member nations under the Food and Agriculture Organization's ongoing campaign to raise awareness of sustainable forestry — Cyprus participated with this piece tied to the UN's International Year of the Forest designation. Cyprus's own forest cover, concentrated in the Troodos and Kyrenia ranges, had been a politically charged subject since the 1974 Turkish invasion left the northern timber regions under separate administration.
