The 1976 independence of Seychelles from Britain came after a remarkably compressed political timeline — full internal self-government had only been granted in 1975, and the independence coinage was rushed into production almost simultaneously with the formal handover on June 29, 1976. The two-year date span reflects transitional striking rather than a design change.
